Referred to as HW&D from now on, these are the keys to becoming the player or musician you want to be. These are the keys to becoming WHO you want to be. Without these things you will never see the progress you're looking for, both in life and in music. I'm not saying you have to quit your day job and play 10+ hours a day, though that would certainly bring you up to speed very quickly. However, I think you'll be surprised what you can get out of just 10 minutes a day.
HW&D are the things many guitarists have in common that set them apart from Johnny Dickburn playing "Wonderwall" at a frat party. Note that if your dreams and aspirations are to play Wonderwall then more power to you, we'll get you there very soon.
This is where the disconnect is for a lot of people. They believe they can't get past the "wet noodle" stage of their playing so they resort to playing the same few chords, scales, and songs over and over. If you think this is progress you need to rethink your whole deal. That's called the endless rut and it's what many unfortunate people end up in whether they know it or not.
There is more! I promise, and it only takes a little HW&D.
Guitar Cheat Sheet was designed out of my sheer frustration at the number of pricey online guitar schools, tutorials, secrets, tips, tricks, licks, and whatever else they're pushing you to buy these days.
That there are "teachers" out there who are charging 50, 100, and 150+ dollars for their "guitar secrets" is appalling to say the least. All of this information can be had for FREE around the net. They've just compiled it into one place and marketed it.
I'll let you in on a real secret - musicians are marketers. On average, musicians are semi-intelligent, self-promoting individuals. You just don't make it in the biz without having marketability and without pushing yourself. Charisma doesn't hurt either, another quality marketeers and salesmen have in spades. Do you see the connection I'm trying to make here?
Selling "guitar secrets" is selling snake oil. There are no secrets or shortcuts to being a wonderful guitar player. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. When you see lines like "Top 3 Guitar Secrets", run away, they just want your money.
What this site is NOT:
An attempt to get you to buy anything - You may see an ad or two at some point but you can download AdBlock Plus if you don't want to see them or other ads on the net. We'd be best friends if you allowed my site to display ads though! That's how sites stay running.
Note: I may recommend tools and programs to purchase but rest assured they are purely optional. All you need to take advantage of this site is a guitar, some fingers, and a little childlike wonderment.
A comprehensive guide to being a musician, or even guitarist for that matter - there is no comprehensive guide. The deeper you go the bigger the cave gets. I don't claim that this will have you playing at any level in any amount of time because everyone has different schedules, desires and reasons to play an instrument, and the amount of pages it would take to make a guide like that would break the internet.
A sing-a-long tab book - I'm not here to teach you to play your favorite songs. I'm here to give you the tools you need to do whatever you want with just a piece of wood, some strings, and your metacarpals (hands/fingers). You may learn a lick or phrase from some songs you enjoy but it will be purely educational, I promise you.
What this site IS:
A learning tool - In addition to technique and theory building exercises you'll find all sorts of general information on guitars themselves, history of the instrument, guitar maintenance, amp/effects terminology, and even tips for purchasing gear. Old players may learn new things, new players will learn all kinds of things, and there's something for everyone in between.
A practice regimen builder - as you progress through the courses you will build a standard pratice regimen that allows you to stay on top of your game. You can mix and match the lessons and courses in order to create a custom guitar practice routine whether you have 10 minutes or 10 hours.
A safe place - it just is.
Learning how to play is great but start here if you want to have a working knowledge of the world surrounding the guitar.
The history of the guitar. How it was invented and used in its earliest incarnations all the way up to how it's being used today. Complete with examples of popular guitar styles and their history.
Learn about all of the parts on guitars ranging from acoustic to modern shred machines. You'll learn what makes a guitar great as well as basic amplifier and effects terminology.
Learn how to keep your guitar in tip top playing shape. Guitar maintenance is just as important as any aspect of playing. If you can't keep your guitar playing smoothly you won't find much joy in playing it.
Beginners! You have never picked up a guitar in your life, maybe you don't even know what a guitar is! Maybe you don't even know what wood is or that it comes from things called trees! These lessons contain a lot of general information to get you started on your path to musical freedom.
Intermediate..ers! You're ready to get cooking. You'll learn about building chords (it's easy like Legos®), a full scale and more importantly how to build scales so you'll always be a pen and pad away from figuring out your next hit.
Advanced techniques such as sweep picking, building arpeggios (so you can sweep them, duh!), tapping, vibrato, phrasing, and more finger-twisting exercises than you can shake a pick at.
The deepest circle of finger hell.
